Monday Morning Ethics, and My Friend, Chuck Gallagher

On this writing journey, I have had my share of low’s as well as high’s. I have learned from both.

I did not expect much when I first encountered Chuck through a website that matched writers with business leaders and speakers. Chuck is a very busy guy (and one of America’s leading experts on ethics). He did not have the time to write his own blog. He gave me direction, of course, and from there I began to produce anywhere from one to three posts a week for him. What began as a strict writing and business relationship developed into a friendship. Amazingly, we have worked together for more than 12-years.

Chuck is what I would call a “Speaker’s Speaker.” He has spoken on ethics throughout the world and in addition to his speaking and corporate lives, he trains and advises professional speakers to become better and more successful speakers. Me? I can get tongue-tied giving my order to a waiter, but words flow from Chuck like a babbling brook or waterfall or water faucet!

Why has Chuck been so successful and internationally acclaimed? I can offer all sorts of reasons, but I feel his success is based on his absolute belief in the messaging he conveys. He has a whole back-story that you can find on www.chuckgallagher.com, but for the present let’s simply say that he is the embodiment of what a second-chance in life should look like.

Sports Ethics

Chuck and I also share a common love of sports. I tend to be a little more of a geek (OK, a lot more) but Chuck is always thinking about the ethical questions. In this spirit, several years ago Chuck and I were meeting about a book he was writing and we by chance, we wondered why the topic of “sports ethics” was so undervalued? Clearly, there has never been a greater need for sports ethics training than in the present day. The sports world is loaded with ethical issues, from NIL issues to PED abuse to all of the problems surrounding gender.

From our discussions many years ago, Sports Ethics LLC was born, and www.sportsethics.com was established. Chuck is ready and certainly able to talk on ethics to athletes, coaches, teams, programs, sports executives and conferences.

From our common sports interests, we wanted to create an engaging and relevant book that would not be a dull or dry read. The result of that vision was “Monday Morning Ethics.” The book is not only intended for those in the sports world, but for people who love sports as kind of a metaphor for business discussions.

In Monday Morning Ethics, we take 31 of the greatest sports scandals that have occurred over the past 80-years, detailed each case, and then Chuck discusses those cases in detail. We found that each scandal allowed people who were normally closed down to the topic of ethics to open up in deep and inciteful discussion. It is truly remarkable to hear business people, physicians, association members, anyone, start to discuss a sports scandal in personal terms reflecting their own lives.

On this journey, I am often surprised by what resonates with people. I suppose it is why I value writing nonfiction. I learn so much and I can help others in many different ways. In support of Monday Morning Ethics, Chuck created a series of videos to interest readers. I present one of those videos below (many more can be found on YouTube). By the way, If you would like to speak directly to Chuck about Sports Ethics, his direct line is (828) 244-1400.
